The Dingley Arterial is a partially completed $74.6-million six-lane arterial road in Melbourne’s South Eastern Metropolitan suburbs. The new road is a crucial link in an 11-kilometre arterial aimed at alleviating traffic congestion at a number of major bottlenecks.
Recycled materials chosen to build the Dingley Arterial
Alex Fraser’s facility at Kingston Road, Clarinda, made a perfect supply location for Fulton Hogan. Between January 2012 and December 2012 the Clarinda plant supplied Class 4 Recycled Crushed Concrete sub base material, and Class 3 Cement Treated Crushed Concrete as a base layer material.
5mm Recycled Sand was used for the construction of approximately 8,000 lineal metres of subsurface drainage, alongside 20mm and 14/10mm aggregates.
Aidan Thompson, Fulton Hogan’s project manager, had used Alex Fraser’s Recycled Crushed Concrete road base and aggregates for many years, and appreciated the amount of work that had gone into achieving VicRoads specification for these products.
According to Aidan, Alex Fraser “proved to be a perfect fit for us on this project.” On construction projects, a quicker turnaround translates into cost savings.
“The location of Alex Fraser’s Clarinda site made truck turnaround times faster. We also chose Alex Fraser because they assured us they could supply the relatively large volumes at a competitive price,” Aidan added.
Aidan also commends Alex Fraser’s communication skills.
“Despite significant inclement weather experienced throughout 2011, the project was delivered two months early, thanks to a number of contributing factors. One of which was working with a dedicated contact at Alex Fraser who understood our requirements on a day-to-day basis.”
